Support the Andrade Family

Support  the Andrade Family

The Norma Andrade Committee denounces and condemns the assault perpetrated against human rights activist Norma Andrade yesterday –December 2nd- in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.

Norma, mother of Lilia Alejandra (assassinated in 2001), is co-foundress of “Nuestras Hijas de Regreso a Casa” (“Bring back home our daughters”), organization dedicated to provide with assistance to the mothers of young females murdered in Ciudad Juarez; Andrade was shot by a group of hitmen yesterday. At this time, Norma is hospitalized and her daughter Malu Garcia Andrade arrived to Juarez from the exile to arrange her mother to move to Mexico City in order to avoid Norma –and Malu’s children, political refugees- from being assassinated.

Therefore, we demand  both the President of Mexico, Felipe Calderon, and Governor of Chihuahua, Cesar Duarte, to provide with all the precautionary measures during the Andrades’ relocation to Mexico City; we will hold them accountable for any harm inflicted to them during their transit and once the family settles in Mexico City.  Our organization also claims the authorities above mentioned to provide with medical assistance and the lodging needed. We too demand protection for Malu Garcia Andrade to carry out all the procedures required and to pick up the family’s documentation in Juarez.
